I am quitting politics, announces Deepa
J Deepa, niece of the late chief minister and AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa, on Tuesday announced that she was quitting politics citing personal reasons.

Deepa, who floated MGR Amma Deepa (MAD) Peravai after the controversial demise of her aunt Jayalalithaa, gained political importance in 2018, but her party fizzled out with functionaries abandoning it.
“I have taken the decision to quit politics on my own due to personal reasons and I admit that I did not have proper guidance in the field of politics,” she said. Earlier this year, the MAD Peravai merged with the ruling AIADMK.
Deepa admitted that the past two years of her political life was painful and was a bad experience. She said the women entering politics are not encouraged and said to ensure that women continue in politics, people should stop posting hateful and degrading comments.
“There were instances of party persons cheating others and I am not prepared for that. Further several functionaries have abandoned me,” she said justifying her retirement from active politics.
She also requested others not to trouble her family members henceforth and said she was not after the properties left by her aunt Jayalalithaa.
It may be noted that a sizeable number of party cadre supported Deepa as she resembled Jayalalithaa and she drew crowd in rural areas. Meanwhile there were also rumours that Deepa’s supporters were requesting her to reverse her decision.
