Policemen on poll duty cast postal ballots
A total of 1,034 police personnel on election duty were enabled to cast their postal ballots for the Vellore Lok Sabha poll at the Nethaji stadium in the town on Monday.
Vellore
The exercise was overseen by constituency returning officer and Collector A Shanmugasundaram, DRO J Parthiban, SP Pravesh Kumar and Vellore sub collector K Meghraj.
It may be recalled that following more than 5,100 staff, including teachers completing the second level of election training, they were allowed to cast their votes in the poll booth to which they were allotted. This was because they are also part of the flying squads (FS) and static surveillance teams (SST) which fan out to various parts of the constituency round the clock, thus hindering them from being in one location to cast postal ballots.
Till date, both FS and SST have seized more than Rs 2.50 crore in cash being transported without supporting documents.
