Nellai triple murder case transferred to CB-CID
In a major development, the probe into the Tirunelveli triple murder case in which the former Mayor Uma Maheswari was also a victim has been transferred to the CBCID by the DGP on Monday.
Chennai
The order to transfer the murder case that took place on July 23 came at a time when the local police had picked up Karthikeyan, the son of a DMK woman functionary Seeniammal.
Uma Maheshwari,60, her husband Murugasankaran, 70 and their housemaid Mariammal, 35, were hacked to death. It may be noted a team led by CBICD inspector had visited the scene of crime couple of days back and making some enquiries in the locality.
During investigation, the local police car used by the accused was also seized. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Karthikeyan committed the crime alone. However, a few other suspects have also been picked by the cops for questioning.
Sources said that Seeniammal who was keen to rise in the party tried all options, but in vain. As Seeniammal suspected that the former Mayor was hindering her growth in the party, she along with her son allegedly hatched a plot to murder Uma Maheswari. Her son Karthikeyan reportedly committed the murder.
To evade arrest, he did not carry cell phone while executing the crime. So, special teams formed to probe the case struggled to get any concrete lead during the investigations into the case. The teams then checked footage of nearly 40 CCTV in the region. Moreover, fingerprints lifted from three spots also played a key role in nearing the culprit, sources added. Reacting to this, Seeniammal said the CB CID should conduct fair probe as allegations linking her to the murder were untrue. Talking to reporters in Madurai, Seeniammal said, “being a state level representative of the party, why should I give money for poll tickets.”
Except meeting Uma Maheshwari at party meetings, Seeniammal, who is planning to move an HCP for his son, ruled out any relationship with slain ex-Mayor.
Initially the case was treated as murder for gain as seventy one sovereigns of gold also went missing simultaneously and Melapalayam police filed a case under Sections 302 and 380 of IPC.
