The victim has been identified as M Gopi (35) of Sathya Nagar and the accused has been arrested within a short span of time after the murder has occurred. The accused has been identified as M Ramesh Kumar (28) of the same locality.

According to police investigations, it has been revealed that there had been a previous enmity between Gopi and Ramesh Kumar which is the primary cause behind the murder. Earlier on March 14 in 2010, Gopi, who was a history-sheeted criminal, attacked Ramesh Kumar with a weapon with an intention to murder him. However, Ramesh Kumar managed to escape.

Later in 2014, Gopi assaulted Ramesh Kumar’s mother in order to eliminate Ramesh Kumar but failed to do so. As enmity grew between them, Gopi was said to have migrated earlier to Sayalkudi and worked there. However, Gopi visited Thoothukudi in order to appear for the Court case hearings.

On learning this, Ramesh Kumar followed his movements and hacked Gopi to death. Thoothukudi South police filed a case and arrested the accused. Several crime cases including attempt to murder, hurt and extortion were booked against both the deceased and the accused, sources said.
