MNM conducts review meeting to expand party

Amid rumours over Prashant Kishor’s IPAC (Indian Political Action Committee) to advice the party, Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam on Friday held its first meeting after the Lok Sabha polls to decide on its future course of action on expanding the party’s support base.

At the meeting of party’s district in-charges here, party founder-president Kamal who chaired the meet heard the view of the party office-bearers on expanding the party.

Sources in the MNM said that the meeting discussed reorganisation and expansion of the party structure.

When asked about the tie-up with Prashant Kishor, sources in the MNM said that the formal announcement would be made by Kamal after finishing the deal with him. Sources said that Kishor met Kamal at his Alwarpet office on June 20 to discuss the modalities to reach a formal understanding.

The IPAC helped YSR Congress led by YS Jaganmohan Reddy to come to power in Andhra Pradesh in May this year.

MNM candidates failed to win any parliamentary seat in the Lok Sabha elections, yet it managed to get the third place in as many as 13 Lok Sabha constituencies, giving the party a hope that it can emerge as an alternative to the two major Dravidian parties — the AIADMK and DMK.
