14 stranded Kumari fishermen rescued by CSG
The Coastal Security Group (CSG) of Tamil Nadu Marine Police on Friday evening rescued 14 fishermen, who were stranded in mid sea off Kanniyakumari coast after their mechanized fishing vessel developed a snag.
Fisheries officials said the fishermen had put out to sea in the boat from Chinna Muttom fishing harbor on Thursday early morning. They should have returned to the shore by night on the same day as perschedule.
As they did not return till this morning, the fisher folk and the family members of the missing fishermen sought the assistance of CSG and the Indian Coast Guard to trace them.
The fishermen of Chinna Muttom coastal hamlet also launched a massive search operation.
In the meantime, the CSG received a distress call from the stranded boat this afternoon that its engine developed a technical snag when they were fishing 38 nautical miles south-east of Kanniyakumari coast. Soon after receiving the distress call, the CSG lost contact with the fishermen.
Based on the distress call, the CSG personnel who embarked on a search located the boat and rescued the fishermen, this evening.
The fishermen along with the boat would be brought to the harbor in the night.
