    Sub-inspector caught riding bike without helmet, suspended

    The city police suspended a sub-inspector within hours of receiving visual evidence from a citizen on Friday of the officer riding a two-wheeler without wearing a helmet.

    This is the first case of police personnel being placed under suspension for not wearing head gear while riding a two-wheeler.

    Sub-inspector S Madhan Kumar, of Mambalam police station, has been placed under suspension ‘for his dereliction of duty by riding motor cycle without wearing helmet at South Usman Road, T Nagar at 9.10 am on Friday,” noted the suspension order issued from joint commissioner of police, South Zone, Chennai city.


    Madhan Kumar, belonging to year 2011 batch left for patrolling on the department vehicle (TN 01G 5375) without wearing the headgear, which is mandatory for all who ride two-wheeler in the state, sources said. The photograph of him, riding the bike without helmet, was received by a senior police officer.


    Following this, the Mambalam traffic inspector Radhakrishnan was asked to follow it up with action. The traffic officer immediately contacted SI but the later reportedly asked him to wait for some time. The traffic inspector issued a challan in SI’s name and handed over the receipt at the station. The city police have initiated an inquiry against SI Madhan Kumar.
