Inflow into Mettur dam up after Karnataka rain

Though the upstream of Cauvery is witnessing heavy rain, the downpour along the catchment areas in TN is still below normal, said a senior public works department official stating that the inflow into the Mettur dam which was more than 8000 cusecs on Thursday morning dipped to 7000 cusecs by evening. However, there are reports that Karnataka has started releasing 14,000 cusecs, which includes 7025 cusecs from Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir and 7000 cusecs from Kabini, into the Cauvery, the official said, adding that the inflow into the Stanley reservoir would double up by Friday if there was a steady release from Karnataka.

The level in Mettur dam has increased by two feet in the past two days and the storage is around 12.69 tmc water against its total capacity of 93 tmc capacity. 

However, the PWD officials monitoring the Bhavani Sagar dam said that the inflow into Bhavani has dipped in the past two days owing to the dip in downpour in Sathyamangalam tiger reserve, the official said.

Meanwhile, following good rains in Kerala, the Mullaiperiyar dam had also started receiving an inflow of 396 cusecs.
