The school comprising students of primary and higher secondary sections is located in the heart of Pernambut town and presently has only around 286 students, a far cry from the 1,800 students who once were on its rolls. There are 12 teachers, including the headmistress Kalaivani.

The Vellore District Adi Dravida Welfare Officer Venusekaran, visited the campus and ordered the school head to make a report for the provision of an overhead tank, compound wall and toilets after the school was locked by the politicians on Monday.

The school has no compound wall which benefitted anti-socials elements to use the campus for gambling, drinking and other activities and many times drunk men are found sleeping when the school is in progress. The campus lacked water and proper restrooms and students were forced to use those in neighbouring houses.

Though parents complained to Kalaivani to rectify the issue, there was no response, due to which retired headmaster Soundarapandian, brought in various party members, including town Congress president G Suresh Kumar, AIADMK town secretary Sivaji, DMK agricultural wing coordinator Nagarajan to act against the head.

Responding to the news, the police rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the crowd who refused to send their wards to school. Venusekaran ordered action and the students wereallowed inside.
