Palaniswami betraying Delta ryots: Thanjai MP
Thanjavur MP SS Palanimanickam has slammed Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami’s project of establishing 100 new waterbodies to benefit four Assembly constituencies in Western region as a betrayal of delta farmers.

Speaking to reporters, Palanimanickam, who referred to the address of the Chief Minister in his home constituency Salem, said, the Chief Minister promised the people of his constituency that 100 waterbodies would be established with a fund of Rs 565 crore. “This would help Mettur, Omalur, Edappadi and Sangagiri Assembly segments only and this is an act against the delta farmers and indirectly wants to turn the Cauvery irrigated districts like Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Tiruchy and Pudukkottai arid,” he said.
He asked the Chief Minister to maintain and deslit the existing waterbodies in these districts. Proper desilt works would help to save the excess water and also the monsoon rains which would help the Cauvery Delta farmers to undertake farming activities, he said.
Stating that the construction of new waterbodies in the western region would pave way for helping the hydrocarbon projects, Palanimanickam asked the Chief Minister to withdraw the order and spend the fund of Rs 565 crore to the desilting works in Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Tiruchy and Pudukkottai districts and the farmers from the region would certainly appreciative the Chief Minister, he said.
Meanwhile, Palanimanickam charged that the Chief Minister has been releasing at least 1,000 cusecs per day to his native constituency.
