Just 1 govt school student gets med seat
Out of 19,680 government/government-aided school students who appeared for NEET this year, only one has managed to obtain MBBS admission under State quota in the phase one of counselling, said sources.

This is despite more students from government and government aided schools clearing NEET this year (2,557) compared to last year when only 1,344 students cleared NEET.
In NEET 2019, 5,710 students scored more than 400, of which M Keerthana, who scored 453 marks, was the only government school student. She has secureda government seat at Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College, Perambalur.
There are 3,250 seats inState-run medical colleges and 1,800 seats under State quota in self-finance colleges.
Last year, three government school students received seat in government medical college, while four others obtained admission at private colleges under State quota. In addition, 13 students from aided schools received admission, taking the total count to 20 in 2018.
In 2017, five students got MBBS admission based on NEET score, of which two got seat in government medical colleges and three were admitted under State quota in private medical colleges. The number was higher in 2016, when around 30 government school students made it.
