Set up PSC in Pondy, CPM appeals to govt
The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) on Tuesday urged the government to take immediate steps to set up a Public service Commission in the Union Territory and recruit over 600 qualified candidates here as college professors.

In a letter to Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, Puducherry unit CPM Secretary Rajangam said the education of over 14,000 students in 28 faculties were affected as the government had failed to fill up the 150 vacant posts of lecturers/professors.
He pointed out that, 59 assistant professors belonging to Puducherry, with all the prescribed qualifications of the UGC, were appointed for part-time posts with a meagre salary of Rs 10,000 per month and they were now terminated without any prior notice.
Rajangam demanded that they be re-appointed and a reasonable salary be fixed for them.
He charged that even though qualified candidates were there in Puducherry, they were being denied appointments to educational institutions in the union territory and pointed out that out of the 102 professors recruited to the arts and science colleges here through UPSC, only two were from Puducherry and all the rest were from north India, who could not read or talk Tamil.
