The Coast Guard ship ICGS Ameya while patrolling at Palk Bay received a distress call during the early hours of the morning on 14 Jul 2019 from a boat named IFB Kulandhai Yeshu with four crew onboard.

The boat had reported flooding onboard and any delay in arresting the flooding could have caused the boat to sink and loss of lives.

ICGS Ameya proceeded at maximum speed to the position.

The brave Coast Guard crew carried out continuous deflooding and finally arrested the source of flooding quickly.

The fishing boat was thereafter safely towed under the escort of ICGS Ameya upto Mandapam.
