A PIL filed by I Aseervatham from Chokkikulam in Madurai came up for urgent hearing before a division bench, comprising judges Ravichandrababu and Mahendran.
The petitioner referring to notification of the Department of Posts on June 4, 2019, said the post of Gramin Dak Sevaks required educational qualifications of passing only SSLC and Class 12. Already notification about the exam issued on May 10, 2019 clearly stated it would be also in the regional languages. However, the said notification was changed on July 11 and the public came to know about it on July 13. The petitioner stated that it would be unfair for a person having only this qualification to write examinations either in English or Hindi.
Many applicants would have studied in schools where medium of instruction was in the regional language. Hence, the petitioner prayed that the court seeking its intervention to pass an interim injunction.
However on hearing, the bench ordered the respondents to withheld results of the examination until the case was disposed. The case was posted for further hearing on July 19.
