Go West: Mantra for rich grooms, brides-to-be
The survey by Elite Matrimony, a premium matchmaking service, from Bharat Matrimony sheds light on several interesting aspects of the way rich India is choosing to walk the aisle.
Chennai
For super-rich folks in India, it seems matrimony is an affair best-solemnised with individuals who have set their home base overseas. If numbers are anything to go by, one in every two women and one in every two men from affluent homes are scouting for life partners who have an established work or familial presence in the first world – namely the US, Canada, and a little closer in the UAE.
For instance, the upper crust of the matrimonial pie, which was until now occupied by top brass professionals from the software segment, has now made way for entrepreneurs and businessmen. Trend watchers are calling it a clear deviation among prospects – forgoing men and women who got comfortable with an assured big ticket pay-cheque and opting for adventurous companions, who are unafraid to take risks, in their enterprising ventures. Even user registration wise, Tamilians are part of the demographic leading the pack, alongside Telugu, Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali folks.
Giving us an idea of the evolving mindset of the super-rich grooms and brides in waiting is Murugavel Janakiraman, Founder and CEO, Matrimony.com.
He said, “India is home to the fourth largest population of millionaires in the Asia Pacific region. The country has as many as 3.5 lakh ‘dollar millionaires’ if one goes by a report last year. That’s a huge and special market to cater. For this niche segment of members, the needs and preferences when it comes to finding a life partner are unique. We see a huge potential and have been witnessing rapid growth each year and seeing plenty of success stories as well.”
