Rowdy held for attack on cop, suffers fracture after ‘accidental fall’ in Ariyamangalam station
A rowdy element, who had allegedly attacked a head constable here in the district with a weapon, was taken to the police station for interrogation where he reportedly slipped in the bathroom and sustained fractures on both his arms on Tuesday.

According to sources, Hariharan (40), who has been serving as head constable at Ariyamangalam police station here, was on regular patrol in the late hours on Monday when he spotted Ismail (43), a rowdy element and fish vendor, quarrelling with a medical shop owner and attacking him in the melee.
Hariharan, who intervened to pacify the duo, was met by the irate Ismail who took a knife used in his fish stall and attacked the head constable. Hariharan sustained injuries on his head and hand in the attack. He was then rushed to Tiruchy Government Hospital where the doctors performed a surgery on his hand that was wounded in the knife attack.
Meanwhile, the Ariyamangalam police registered a case and a hunt was on for Ismail. Later, they managed to secure Ismail from Ariyamangalam. The police then took him to the station for further investigation. However, the accused, while going to the bathroom, reportedly slipped there and suffered fracture on his both the arms. Ismail was subsequently taken to the GH where he is undergoing treatment.
The police said that Ismail was involved in various offences in the city. The accused also has a case pending against him over assaulting a traffic policeman with lethal weapons.
