New sports scheme in Jaya’s name at village level
In a bid to encourage sports activities, especially in rural areas, the state government on Tuesday announced ‘Amma Ilaingnar Vilayattu Thittam’ to be implemented in 12,524 village panchayats and 528 town panchayats at a cost of Rs 64.35 crore.

Soon after the question hour, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami also made a series of announcements for Fisheries Department and Veterinary Department.
Under Rule 110, the Chief Minister told the House that under the new scheme, the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department will train young boys and girls.
“In addition, Amma Ilaingnar Vilayattu Kuzhu (committee) will be formed separately for male and female players at all village and town panchayats,” he added. Stating that in a bid to encourage the youngsters, the Sports Department will also distribute prizes for the winners, Palaniswami said apart from distributing prizes, the authorities will also purchase sports equipment.
“Similarly, open air gymnasium will also be set up for youngsters,” he said adding new cash prize scheme will also be brought for junior and senior level sportspersons.
Informing the Assembly that measures will be taken to construct play grounds across all the districts, the Chief Minister said that the playground could be used for the sports such as Kabadi, Volleyball, Cricket and Football. He further said the old building of the Sports Development Authority located near Chennai Nehru Park will be demolished and a new building will be constructed at a cost of Rs 5 crore. Making announcements for the Fisheries Department he said fishing harbours will be setup at Azhagankuppam in Villupuram district and Alamparaikuppam in Kancheepuram district at a cost of Rs 235 crore. “Another fishing harbour will also be constructed at Arcotthurai at a cost of Rs 150 crore,” he added.
For Veterinary Department, Palaniswami said government is taking steps to introduce a scheme by distributing ten goats to female beneficiaries, who are from poor background. “This scheme will be implemented this year at a cost of Rs 24.06 crore,” he said. In addition, a Centre for Animal Disease Diagnostic and Surveillance will also be set up at Paddapai in Kancheepuram district at a cost of Rs 10 crore, he informed.
