Vellore Aavin’s profit hikes over Telangana demand
The demand for milk supply from Telangana increasing from 50,000 litres a day to 75, 000 litres aided by milk procurement during the summer not decreasing has resulted in the Vellore Aavin eyeing a profit of Rs.1.50 crore for June this year, according to its general manager.
Vellore
The summer has resulted in an increased demand for milk in neighbouring Telangana which is met by the Vellore dairy. “We load 12,000 litre-capacity milk tankers from Telangana round-the-clock to meet their demand,” GM Kothandaraman said. Mentioning the daily milk procurement in Vellore to have stabilised, he adds, “The continued supply of ghee to Chennai and Krishnagiri for sales in both areas continues without a hitch and adds to the profit margin.”
However, veterinarians are reportedly puzzled over why milk production has not slumped during the summer as the February-June period is when cows calve, which in turn reduces daily milk procurement. “Vellore district has mainly medium quality cows which produce around 10 litres milk daily. Smaller animals produce 5 litres and high-end breeds ensure 15 litres milk daily,” officials, however, maintained.
However, while co-operative milk supply society members are reportedly happy at the dairy earning profits as it ensures the timely payment of dues, the same cannot be said of subordinate dairy officials, an official said, citing the suspension of staff for various malpractices ensuring the workers realising that their “easy days are over and that they have to work and earn their wages.”
