The raids were based on the information received from a secret source in the tribal area following which Chinnasamy (40) of Peenjamandai, and Alalgesan (25) and Kullaiyan (32) of Thongumalai were arrested.
Another illegal gun owned by one Chinnvedu (45) from a village near Tirupattur was seized while the owner absconded.
The action came following the orders by Vellore SP Pravesh Kumar after a farmer killed himself with an illegal country gun in the pump room on his farm at Melarasampattu following a tiff with his wife a few days ago.
The police also secured Muniraj (68) of Nayanaseruvu near Tirupattur who was involved in the manufacture and sale of such guns.
The police also received information about Dhanapakkiam (38) of Melpattu Kollaimedu, who is allegedly involved in supplying spare parts. But she is now absconding.
When asked what they were planned to do with the seized weapons, police said, “After certification by the local magistrate, it will be stored in a designated armoury.”
Police sources added that such raids would continue so as to root out this menace.
