Tiruchy police use children’s park to ‘educate’ traffic violators
In what could be a novel approach to ‘educate’ those violating traffic rules, the Tiruchy City Police on Thursday led the offenders to the children’s traffic park in the District Collectorate and held a session on following traffic regulations, even spending time to clear doubts.

According to sources, the police conducted simultaneous inspections at various spots across the city here to secure those violating traffic norms. The police organised a vehicle check-up along Dindigul main road, Aristo roundabout, Mannarpuram, Thillai Nagar, Anna Nagar and cantonment areas and detained as many as 75 autorickshaw drivers for violating traffic norms.
Although the police imposed fine and registered cases against the traffic violators, they also took all of them to the recently-opened children’s traffic park in the District Collectorate where schoolchildren are given lessons in traffic rules as well as imparted training.
The autorickshaw drivers were then educated about traffic norms for nearly an hour and were also briefed on various regulations by the police officials, who also interacted with them and even cleared their doubts.
Meanwhile, around 500 students from various schools across the district were given training on vehicle usage and following traffic rules.
The instructors gave the students bicycles and toy bikes and were trained on how to ride safely and follow the road safety rules.
