The pipes procured from a private company in Kalahasti in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh arrived in Jolarpet, said sources. The pipes would connect the Jolarpet municipality’s ground level reservoir at Mettutharakampatti to the railways overhead tank at Parsanpet, which is 3.5 km away.
A total of 40 truckloads (each load consisting of 19 pipes) are expected to reach the spot in a couple of days after which the work of laying them, below ground level, would begin. Both Railways and TWAD officials are continuously monitoring the project work throughout the day, officials said.
Meanwhile, the Railways sent a list of instructions to the Chennai Metrowater officials regarding transportation of water from Jolarpet. It said that the Metrowater should clean the vessels that are used for transportation.
The railways also distanced itself from loading and offloading process and said that the Metrowater officials should make arrangements for the process. The letter also stated it had earlier communicated about payment to be made for the transportation of water.
