DMK President MK Stalin, in his latest press statement has insisted the Tamil Nadu government to immediately accept the water that the Kerala government is offering to supply for the state.

The statement issued by the DMK President MK Stalin read:

As the Tamil Nadu assembly session date has been declared as 28th of June, it is timely to discuss the drinking water crisis in Tamil Nadu. The government must realise the struggle of people for water. The unprecedented water crisis that has plagued organizations at all levels including schools, colleges, hostels, restaurants and IT companies is further destabilizing the economic growth and development of the already fragile state.

Even after numerous protests on drinking water crisis, negligent actions such as calling the crisis a rumour, have not only hurt people, but have insulted the feelings of the protestors.

The people of Tamil Nadu expect the Ministers to stop giving such interviews and focus only on constructive measures to deal with the problem of drinking water. The news of ADMK Ministers getting water supplied in lorries to their homes regularly will anger the protesting public.

The main goal of a responsible government is to ensure safe drinking water for everyone. To fulfil that responsibility, the government should come forward to address the water crisis by making available drinking water for all. Residents are made to wait for water trucks for 25 days even after registering online with the Chennai Drinking Water Board. This is sheer cruelty.

The Tamil Nadu government’s denial to Kerala government offer is objectionable. The Tamil Nadu government should immediately accept the water that Kerala Chief Minister offers.

The Chief Minister should form a special resolution on 28th in the Assembly session to discuss water crisis that is prevalent in the state. All the MLAs should be given chance to share their opinions. A thorough discussion on that resolution should be made to address the drinking water issue. DMK is ready to extend its support to execute this.

The DMK President also thanked Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan over a phone call for offering water to Tamil Nadu.
