    Tamil Nadu Department of Technical Education (DoTE) on Thursday released the rank list of students seeking engineering seats in the State, with three candidates having secured centum cut-off marks.

    While releasing the merit list, Higher Education Minister K P Anbalagan, said a total of 1,33,166 students have applied for engineering admissions this year.


    He said that the certificate verification was earlier done between June 7 and June 13. Around 1.06 lakh candidates verified their certificates through Students Facilitation Centres, set up across all the districts. “Of the total applicants, the rank list was prepared for 1,03,150 students,” he added.


    Stating that this year a total of 1,72,940 engineering seats are available in as many as 479 colleges, the Minister said that the total engineering seats available through government quota in state-run colleges was 6,137.


    Accordingly, around 8,000 seats would be available in colleges constituent to the Anna University across Tamil Nadu. Anna University alone will have 1,140 engineering seats this year.


    About 65% of engineering and B Tech seats would be available in 350 self-financing non-minority colleges functioning across the state.


    As per the data given by DOTE officials, three persons -- G Arvind, S P Harish Prabu and Prathiba Senthil -- secured 200 out of 200 as cut-off marks. Around seven candidates have secured second position by getting 199 marks as cut-off.


    The Minister said that four days would be given for the students to get clarification regarding to their cut-off marks with DOTE officials.


    As the rank list was announced, the counselling for the students coming under reserve category would begin from June 25 and continue till June 27. The counselling for students under general category would be held from July 3.


    The first batch of students under general category, who have secured between 200 and 193 cut-off marks, would attend the first round of counselling. The counselling -- to be held in multiple rounds -- would end on July 28.


    The Minister said that once the counselling was over, tentative admission list would be prepared for the students as per the college of their choice. Subsequently, the final list would be declared by the end of July and the colleges could be expected to open in the first week of August.

    Reduce 30% inproposed fee hike, Govt urges Anna Univ

    On the proposal to hike fees for Anna University’s constituent colleges, Minister Anbalagan said that the government has requested to reduce at least 30% from the proposal. However, the Minister did not reveal the fact that proposals were sent by the colleges for increasing the fees structure. Anna University in its recent meeting of its Syndicate, the highest decision taking body, decided to hike the fees for its 19 constituent colleges from this academic year.
