Almost all Parliamentarians from the state swore upon Tamil and the principles they espoused after taking oath, keeping the hashtag “Vazhga Tamizh” trending nationally on Twitter in the afternoon.

“Vazhga Tamizh”, “Vazhga Periyar” and “Vazhga Dravidam” echoed in the Parliament for nearly an hour, prompting a sloganeering battle between opposition MPs from TN and their BJP counterparts who responded with “Jai Shree Ram” and “Bharat Mata ki jai” in the second day of the maiden session of 17th Lok Sabha.

It all started after Congress MP K Jayakumar from Tiruvallur hailed Mahatma Gandhi, Periyar, Ambedkar and Kamarajar after taking oath in Tamil and the MPs who followed him did not disappoint the House.
