    Two-year-old falls into water pit, dies

    In a tragic incident in Pudukkottai, a two-year-old girl died after accidentally falling into a five-foot pit dug for drawing water.

    According to sources, in the wake of the drought like situation, residents of Vaithur village in Pudukkottai, stopped did not get water from the overhead tank in their area. In order to tide over the crisis, residents dug a pit near the pipeline for drawing water. However, the residents did not have make necessary arrangements to close the pit. As a result, many motorists fell into the pit during night. Several passersby, who slipped into the pit, also were injured.


    Even after such incidents, the pit was not covered. Meanwhile, a couple of days ago on June 15, rain lashed the village and the pit got filled.


    Unaware of the presence of the pit, Bhavadharini (2), daughter of Chandrasekar (28) and Vennila (25), who came to her grandmother’s house was playing near the pit.


    As the girl did not return home, relatives searched for the girl in various places, but could not find her.


    One of the residents found a small bag that was carried by the baby near the pit. When the villagers checked the pit, they found the body of the girl in it. However, parents and relatives buried the girl’s body without informing the police.


    On information, Udayalipatti police reached the spot and conducted an inquiry. Further investigation is on.
