DMK youth wing chief Saminathan tenders resignation

DMK sources revealed to DT Next that Saminathan quit, apparently, to make way for Udhayanidhi. However, the party high command is yet to accept the resignation. Though the party has not issued an official statement on either receiving or accepting Saminathan’s resignation, insiders said, “It (resignation) was only a matter of time. When senior leaders and district secretaries have publicly proposed him (Udhayanidhi) for the youth wing leadership, how could Saminathan refuse to demit office? He did what was expected of him,” a DMK senior leader said, requesting anonymity.

According to a district secretary, who did not wish to be named, “Stalin was initially reluctant. Now, he has obliged the family and given his consent to elevate Udhayanidhi. Saminathan’s resignation has not surprised anyone in the party. Appointing Udhayanidhi is a mere formality.”

If sources in the party are to be believed, the much-talked about elevation of Udhayanidhi, who is presently the Managing Director of party organ Murasoli, could happen on June 23. Unsurprisingly, not all in the party were enthused about offering a prominent position to Stalin junior now. A few leaders are wary of the ‘oligarchy’ tag being attached to the party, but they are reluctant to advise Stalin.
