Backward classes students’ hostels inaugurated by CM

After inaugurating the hostel buildings, Palaniswami said, “To ensure continuous education for students of backward, most backward, minorities, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes the state government is inaugurating new schools and hostel buildings on the lines of the late chief minister J Jayalalithaa.”

The hostel buildings for backward caste students were constructed in Athani, in Pudukkottai district, at a cost of Rs 93.71 lakh, Ayanthur, also in Pudukkottai district, at a cost of Rs 94.94 lakh. Similarly, hostels for Most Backward Castes were built in Poondi in Thanjavur district with Rs 1.44 crore and in Kodaikanal, constructed with Rs 1.04 crore. The hostel for students of denotified communities was constructed in Tirupur, at a cost of Rs 81.1 lakh.

The 19 hostels for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, constructed by Scheduled Castes and Tribes Welfare Department, were inaugurated at the cost of Rs 47.3 crore, across the state. The hostels were constructed in Mailam, in Villupuram district, Orikkai in Kancheepuram district, Vadakarai, KG Kandigai and Cholavaram in Tiruvallur, Saidapettai, Periyakulam in Theni, Keeramangalam in Pudukkottai, Palakodu in Dharmapuri, Kumaratchi in Cuddalore, Abiramam in Ramanathapuram district, Uthagamandalam in Nilgris district, Valliyur, Kallur and Serndhamaram in Tirunelveli, Periyasamypuram in Thoothukudi, Anaikatti in Coimbatore district and Vazhavandhinadu inNamakkal district.
