Goldsmith loses 106 sovereigns after 'accident'
A 52-year-old goldsmith was relieved of 106 sovereigns by a gang of unidentified men in a stage-managed accident, in Coimbatore on Tuesday.

According to police, the incident took place when Ramamoorthy, a resident of Sullivan Street, was on his way to Gandhipuram in a two-wheeler to deliver the gold jewels.
While nearing the Ramar Kovil Street, another bike rammed his vehicle from behind resulting in him losing balance and falling to the ground. In the pretext of offering help, a youth took away his bag containing the jewels. Though Ramamoorthy raised an alarm, he managed to escape from the spot.
Based on a complaint from Ramamoorthy, the Kattoor police registered a case and checked the CCTV camera fixed in the locality to trace the culprits.
On suspicion, police secured a 22-year-old youth, who hailed from Theni district. After conducting preliminary inquiries, police suspect that at least four persons were involved in the robbery. Three special teams of police have been formed to nab the culprits.
