3 colleges of education trust restrained from admission process
The Madras High Court has restrained Sri Devi Karumari Amman Educational Trust running Annai Medical College, Arignar Anna Institute of Engineering and Technology, and Arignar Institute of Management Studies and Computer Applications from admitting students for the academic year 2019-2020, pending disposal of a main petition regarding non-repayment of loans in various banks.

Hearing the case, Justice S Vaidyanathan said, “Considering the totality of the circumstances, this court is of the view that if the said trust is permitted to admit students for the academic year 2019-2020, the future of the students will definitely be in peril and they will be let down. Moreover, this court does not want the students to knock at the doors of this court against, seeking admission in different colleges.”
Directing Dr MGR Medical University, to take steps to disaffiliate the colleges belonging to the trust, Justice Vaidyanathan said, “From the pleading put forth on either side, it could be seen that pursuant to the non-repayment of loans by the said trust for years together, availed from various banks, proceedings under Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Securities Interest (SARFAESI) Act have been initiated against the trust and the interim order passed by Debts Recovery Tribunal has not been complied with.”
“It is needless to mention that trust being a religious educational trust, is expected to not only give quality education but also preach moral values of life to its students,” the judge added. He also noted that there is a continuous default in repayment of loans, that the interim order of the Tribunal has not been complied with and that there is already an order of this court as early as December 22, 2017. The case is slated to be taken up for further hearing on June 7.
