New syllabus will help students crack any competitive exam: Sengottaiyan
Launching textbooks with the new syllabi for Classes 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 12 at the Secretariat, School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan on Monday said that it will help students crack any competitive exam at the national level.

He also added that the new curriculum has been designed in such a way to accommodate more than 70 per cent of the information needed for the competitive exams.
“To prepare the students for national-level exams, the current syllabus has been upgraded on par with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and other major boards,” he said.
Stating that the syllabus will also promote Tamil history, literature and culture, the Minister pointed out that it has been more than 12 years since the higher secondary curriculum was revised.
He said that the School Education Department, which was planning to complete the syllabus revamp in three years, has finished the task in just two years.
“All credit goes to the team of experts and Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation, which printed the books on schedule,” he added.
Stating that the curriculum has been revised for the welfare of the students, he said the new textbooks will be distributed to 77,48,000 students studying in Tamil Nadu government and government-aided schools.
The Minister added that 35,414 primary schools, 9,708 middle schools and 17,000 higher secondary schools were functioning under the government.
Schools reopen despiteunending summer
School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan said that teachers need enough time to complete the syllabus before the final examinations begin, justifying the reopening of schools on June 3 despite the hot weather.
“An academic year gets only 220 working days. This can vary if any unexpected holidays are declared, like during monsoon. Therefore, it has been decided to not extend the reopening date,” the Minister said.
He added that the decision was made to benefit the students and teachers.
A few days ago, Sengottaiyan had refuted reports that the reopening would be postponed due to summer.
However, most of the private schools, especially in Chennai, will reopen on June six.
