Kovai guard kills wife over family row, ends life
A 65-year-old security guard allegedly murdered his wife by dropping a gas cylinder on her before ending his own life over family issues, in Coimbatore on Monday.

According to police, Marimuthu, a resident of Nanjappa Gounder Street near Vedapatti and working as a security guard in a private firm, frequently quarrelled with his wife Suppathal after the latter refused to take care of his mentally-challenged brother.
“The couple did not have any children. Suppathal, who sold dry fish, had refused to pay heed to Marimathu’s demands to stay at home. She felt that her unemployment might cause a financial burden on the family,” police said.
With no one to take care of him, Marimuthu’s brother started to beg in the neighbourhood for food. Feeling humiliated after a few neighbours questioned him for not taking care of his brother, Marimuthu entered an argument with Suppathal under the influence of alcohol on Sunday night. Waking up in the early hours on Monday, Marimathu dropped an empty cylinder on his wife. He then assaulted her with a grinding stone. A grievously injured Suppathal died on the spot. Following this, Marimathu decided to end his own life by hanging.
As the doors remained locked for a long while, the neighbours on suspicion informed the Vadavalli police. After reaching the spot, the cops broke into the house and sent the bodies to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for post-mortem. The police have registered a case in connection with the deaths. Further inquiries are on.
