Heatwave to continue in rural TN, says RMC

The maximum temperature is likely to be above normal by 2-3 degree Celsius in Namakkal, Karur, Dindigul, Madurai, Tiruchy and Perambalur. On Sunday, various districts in the State recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius with Cuddalore recording 40.3 degree Celsius, while Tiruttani and Vellore recorded 41.7 degree Celsius and 40.7 degree Celsius respectively.

Thunderstorm accompanied with gusty wind (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) and lightning is likely to occur at isolated places over the State, especially in The Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Virudhunagar, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Tiruvannamalai. The two weather stations in the city at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 39 degree Celsius and 41.1 degree Celsius respectively. Chennai would remain partly cloudy for the next 24 hours. Though development of thunderclouds is possible towards the evening, the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 39 degree Celsius and 30 degree Celsius respectively.

Several parts of the country also reeled under heatwave conditions that claimed one life in Rajasthan where Churu recorded a high of almost 49 degrees Celsius, with the IMD saying there will be no respite for the next two days.
