TN chaiwala celebrates Modi’s swearing-in with Re 1 cup of tea
While the whole nation was witnessing the grand swearing-in of Modi and his team for a second time on Thursday, a chaiwala (tea seller), an ardent fan of the Prime Minister and a die-hard BJP cadre, at Peravurani in Thanjavur district, celebrated the occasion by offering a cup of tea to his customers at just Re 1.

G Rajasekar (55) of Peravurani, has been running a tea stall on Pattukkottai Road in Peravurani. On results day, Rajasekar was elated by Modi wave reflecting on BJP-led NDA’s tally. Immediately, he planned to do something novel to celebrate the swearing-in of Modi as the Prime Minister for the second consecutive term and embarked on the novel idea to offer a cup of tea at Re 1 instead of the usual price of Rs 7 in his shop.
To make the ‘Re 1 sale’ a popular and grand event, Rajasekar invited the district BJP office bearers and the public in his region.
Heeding his request, Thanjavur south district secretary of BJP Pannavayal R Ilango inaugurated the sale on Thursday morning. The shop witnessed a big and steady stream of customers than the usual footfalls.
Rajasekar said that he was impressed by the policies of the Prime Minister and hence he decided to sell tea to public at Re 1 per cup as a mark of salute to Modi, who was sworn in as PM for the second time on Thursday.
“Around 1,000 cups of tea got sold during the day,” said Rajasekar, who was happy by the overwhelming response to his plan to sell tea at a lower price on a day of national importance.
