Woman among 3 arrested for farmer’s murder in Vellore dist

According to police, Ranganathan (36), a farmer of the Irunngur, went out after he received a call on his mobile phone two days back and failed to return home.

On Monday evening, locals found the farmer lying dead with his throat slit at a spot near the village and immediately alerted the Kalavai police.

A police team rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the Arcot Government Hospital for post-mortem.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Ranganathan was in a relationship with a woman, Meena (35), of the same locality. Meena, who was picked up by cops, gave contradictory replies during interrogation. This triggered suspicion in the cops and they intensified their grilling.

Finally, she confessed to having murdered Ranganathan.

Meena said that she had borrowed Rs 2.80 lakh from Ranganathan and he had been pestering her to return the amount.

Annoyed by his continuous demand to return the money, she hatched a plan with his son Vijayaraman (19) and his friend Arun (19), to bump off Ranganathan.

Accordingly, Vijayaraman had called Ranganathan on his mobile phone and asked him come to a secluded spot, where the duo murdered Ranganathan.

Police arrested Meena, her son Vijayaraman and his friend Arun and remanded them to custody. Further investigation is on.
