TNTA: Put off reopening of schools

PK Ilamaran, state president, TNTA, in his statement, said, “Along with soaring temperature, a heat wave is blowing across the state. Due to this health of students would be affected and so the state government should postpone the date of reopening of schools.”

The state school education department passed a circular, on Monday, stating categorically that there is no change in reopening date of schools and schools would be reopened as planned, earlier, on June 3. Though there were demands from parents, political parties and various associations, government did not heed to their demands.

However, TNTA had cited intense heat and health condition of students as reasons that government should consider for postponement of reopening of schools. “Intense heat can cause chicken pox and various skin related problems to students. If students are affected by diseases they could not concentrate on studies and so the classes should not be conducted,” reasoned Ilamaran.

He demanded the state to postpone the school reopening by at least two weeks or till the heat wave subsides.
