Security guard held under Pocso Act

The incident occurred on the premises of Kanniyakumari Government Medical College Hospital at Asaripallam on Monday night. The victim girl along with her mother was there as attendant to an epileptic patient, who’s a relative undergoing treatment in the hospital.

While the girl was asleep on verandah of the hospital, the accused identified as Subin attempted to sexually abuse her on the pretext of demanding water. As the girl screamed, her mother thrashed the accused, who fled the scene, sources said. S. Kumutha, District Child Protection Officer, when contacted, said a private manpower agency without obtaining NOC from the District Police deputed security personnel on the premises of the hospital. Already the accused was charged with similar offences under the limits of Nesamony Nagar police.

A total of 179 personnel including three female security personnel were deputed by the private agent in the hospital. With only three female security personnel, it would be insufficient for such attendants to patients in the hospital, she said.

However, the accused was arrested and Nagercoil All Women police filed a case under Pocso Act, sources said.
