The Opposition DMK on Saturday complained to the Election Commission alleging that the ruling AIADMK party was illegally distributing money to the voters of Ottapidaram Assembly Constituency where bypolls would be held along with three other seats tomorrow.
In a complaint to Chief Electoral officer Satyabrata Sahoo, DMK Rajya Sabha MP R S Bharathi said the AIADMK men were distributing money to the voters in a full-fledged manner from its Thoothukudi District office, situated outside the territorial limit of Ottapidaram constituency.
''Since the flying squad and surveillance teams deputed by the Election Commission are not searching outside the constituency, AIADMK party office bearers are freely distributing money to the voters, from their own office situated at Thoothukudi'',he said.
''Hence, immediate search shall be made in AIADMK's District Office at Thoothukudi to prevent further distribution of Cash for Vote'', he added.
He said unless stringent steps were taken by the EC through its machinery to prevent illegal cash distribution by AIADMK, there would not be any free and fair election.
