Youth confesses crime: Virudhachalam college girl's murder

The 3 minute 9 seconds long confession video of Akash, who murdered his schoolmate Thilakavathy (B.A English literature student) was in rounds on social media. Akash said he murdered as Thilakavathy avoided him. The police nabbed Akash at the Virudhachalam bus stop.

What at first surfaced as love fall-out, was painted by politics and castes. PMK leader GK Mani protested demanding solatium of Rs 50 Lakh and a government job for a member of the Thilakavathy family.

Akash's parents on the flip side claim foul play. They allege honour killing of Thilakavathy by her parents for her cordiality with Akash who belongs to a low-caste. ''It is to brush this under the carpet, our son is being made a scapegoat'', allege Akash's parents.

Thilakavathy's cadaver after postmortem in Virudhachalam government hospital was taken to Mundiyampaakam hospital. Over 100 cops are stationed there fearing intensification of protests.

Family members of Thilakavathy said they won't take Thilakavathy's body until they are allowed to give a petition to the collector.
