State govt machinery under repair like Madurai GRH generator, retorts Kamal
Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan on Friday termed the death of five patients in Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai owing to power failure as a shameful incident.

“When cinema theatres and small businesses have generator backup, the lifesaving hospital does not have one. It is a big failure,” he told reporters at the airport here before leaving for Coimbatore to campaign for his party candidate in Sulur Assembly bypoll.
When pointed out that the hospital had a generator, but it was under repair, the actor-turned-politician retorted that it reflects the present state of affairs in Tamil Nadu.
“Even this state government (machinery) is under repair. We cannot restart this government with a generator from the Delhi as well,” he said, in an indirect reference to the Opposition’s charge that the AIADMK government survives with the support of the BJP government at the Centre.
On doubts being raised over the Election Commission ordering repoll, Kamal said that they expect the Commission to act unbiased. “Before announcing the bypoll, the EC should have held consultation with all the parties. They didn’t do so, but told the candidates only. I think that is not enough,” he said. He also urged the Commission not to reopen the strong rooms at the constituencies where the repolling is being held. “Instead they should create another strong room. If they open the room, it ceases to be a strong room,” he added.
