MNM leader blames ruling party for water crisis too
Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader Kamal Haasan blamed the state government inaction in desilting water bodies for the existing drinking water crisis in the state.

Campaigning for MNM party candidate G Mayilsamy contesting in Sulur bypoll, the actor-turned-politician on Friday harped on the water issue to seek votes.
“The whole of Tamil Nadu is facing water crisis. Nature did not impose this crisis upon us, but water shortage happened due to the laxity of the politicians. Hence, water is sold for up to Rs 20 per pot and women are forced to wait for hours to fetch water,” he said.
Stating that MNM believes in supplying piped water to houses, Kamal said that India can become a super power (vallarasu), if the water crisis is solved.
Further the MNM leader said that besides not taking up desilting of lakes and ponds, the water bodies have also been converted into real estate plots.
“The government is also thinking of how to make revenue by selling sand taken from rivers. Hence, they failed to ensure even the basic drinking water and sewage facilities in these villages. A change can be brought only if those in rule stop corruption,” he said.
He also promised to build a hospital, coir factory in Senjerimalai and a fire service station in the Sulur constituency. Earlier, while addressing reporters, at Coimbatore airport, Kamal said that the family of Balamurugan, an MNM cadre, who died recently, had been instigated to speak against him by someone.
A fringe group led by Balamurugan’s wife sought District Collector to ban Kamal from campaigning in Sulur constituency. “It is not the voice of Balamurugans wife, but had been instigated to speak so,” he said
