DOTE receives more than 70K applications for engineering seats
As on Thursday, over 70,000 students had registered online to get engineering seats from various colleges in the state. With the Department of Technical Education of Tamil Nadu (DOTE) taking up the online counselling for students this year, after Anna University refused to carry out the admissions, the registration process is being carried out in a brisk pace, claimed government sources.

Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2019 (TNEA-2019) is being conducted online since last year when it comes to registration, payments, choice filling, allotment and confirmation.
A senior official from the DOTE told DT Next on Thursday that the online registration and filing applications began on May 2. “On the first day itself more than 15,000 candidates registered themselves,” he added.
“So far about 74,500 applications were received through online,” the official said. He added that since the last date for the online registration is May 31, they are expecting the number of applications to cross one lakh.
Stating that the random numbers will be generated for the candidates on June 3, the official said candidates will have to visit TNEA facilitation centre for certificate verification from June 6 to June 11.
He added that the government has established 42 facilitation centres across the state where the students could seek any required help from the experts regarding the admissions. “After publishing the rank list on June 17, the counselling will begin from July 3 and will continue till 28,” hesaid.
The decision of DOTE to conduct counselling came against the backdrop of the difference of opinion between the Anna University Vice Chancellor M K Surappa and the Higher Education Department over the reconstitution of TNEA committee.
Accordingly, Tamil Nadu government had issued an order under which Surappa was re-designated as co-chairman of the TNEA and appointed K Vivekanandan as the new TNEA chairman. Vivekanandan is serving as the Commissioner of Technical Education.
