    Temperature soars above 41 degrees Celsius in Chennai

    Temperatures continue to rise in the city with no signs of summer drizzle unlike some isolated areas across Tamil Nadu. The city recorded the seasonal highest temperature of more than 41 degrees Celsius with Nungambakkam recording 41.3 degrees Celsius and Meenambakkam recorded 41.6 degrees Celsius during the day.

    Despite forecast of showers in Chennai last week, the city continues to sizzle as other parts of the state have been receiving moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.


    On Thursday, various parts of Tamil Nadu recorded high temperatures with Tiruttani recording a highest of 44 degrees Celsius, while Vellore recorded a maximum of 42.9 degrees Celsius and Madurai recorded 40.8 degrees Celsius respectively.


    As per regional meteorological centre, the city sky will be partly cloudy for the next 48 hours, with maximum and minimum temperatures around 41 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius. Regional meteorological department stated that thunderstorms accompanied with gusty winds and lightning are likely to form in the isolated parts across the state.

    Meanwhile, Tiruvannamalai and its surrounding regions received heavy rainfall on Wednesday evening. As this came soon after they invoked divine intervention, the priests of Arulmigu Arunacheleswarar temple were a happy lot. By Wednesday evening, there was a mild shower which soon turned to heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds.


    The rain, which continued till 9 pm, resulted in flooding inside the temple precincts as also in various low-lying areas across the town. Accompanied by heavy winds, rains also lashed Chetpet town and its surroundings areas.
