Stalin rakes up Jaya’s thumb impression issue in Madurai
The upcoming bypoll to Tiruparankundram Assembly constituency is crucial for the DMK, its president MK Stalin said on Friday in Madurai.

Highlighting the act of ‘forgery’ by the AIADMK when former chief minister J Jayalalithaa was hospitalised in 2016, Stalin said the late MLA AK Bose has committed fraud.
“The late Bose, former AIADMK candidate, who contested from Tiruparankundram Assembly constituency in a bypoll two years ago, committed fraud by taking a fake thumb impression on his nomination papers and claimed as if the thumb impression was of Jayalalithaa,” he said. It was P Saravanan, the DMK candidate, who’s contesting from Tiruparankundram constituency in the ensuing bypoll, fought the issue legally and won it after the Madras High Court set aside the election of Bose, the AIADMK candidate, Stalin recalled.
Citing these factors, Stalin asked people while campaigning for the DMK candidate at Tiruparankundram, whether it was fair to vote for the AIADMK, which he said, had indulged in such acts of forgery. People voted to dethrone Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government in the Lok Sabha elections held last month and now, it’s time for them to vote for DMK to oust the AIADMK regime in Tamil Nadu, he added.
After sensing defeat in bypolls to the vacant Assembly constituencies in the state, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had recently issued notices to three MLAs claiming that they were loyal to AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran, but Stalin said he moved ‘no trust motion’ against Assembly Speaker.
It was Modi government, which remains a bone of support to Palaniswami-led government in Tamil Nadu. While the Modi-led government was destined for defeat, Palaniswami government would also tumble for sure, said Stalin.
Taking a dig at Modi, he said he was an NRI Prime Minister since he spent most of his days in foreign countries and seldom bothered about people especially in Tamil Nadu. He called Modi a ‘sadist’ and said he did not even regret after referring to incidents of Cyclone Gaja that struck Delta region and left several killed, Cyclone Ockhi, which affected Kanniyakumari and claimed many lives of fishermen and the deadly incident in Thoothukudi, where 13 innocent people were gunned down by police last year during protests againstthe Sterlite.
