Sources said that N Sivasubramanian (47) of Pathukattu Street in Banadurai at Kumbakonam, who has been running a grocery shop in the same area, borrowed Rs 3 lakh from P Senthil (52) of SBI colony, Kumbakonam at high interest rate.
Sivasubramanian has been paying the interest for the loan regularly. But, Senthil on April 26, stood on the road in front of the house of Sivasubramanian and abused him for not paying back the loan amount in full. Upset over this, Sivasubramanian attempted suicide by consuming poison. He was rushed to the Kumbakonam GH and was discharged on May 1.
Meanwhile, on April 27, Senthil came to the grocery shop demanded to return the loan amount from Arun alias Akash (22), son of Sivasubramanian. Arun picked up an argument with Senthil about the quantum of loan to be repaid. During the course of the spat, Arun assaulted Senthil.
On Wednesday night, Senthil along with his elder brother P Balaguru (54), a PMK functionary, and two other associates came to the grocery shop and attacked Arun with sharp weapons.Â
A grievously injured Arun was rushed to Kumbakonam GH where doctors declared him ‘brought dead.’ The Kumbakonam East police registered a case of murder against Balaguru, Senthil and two others and have launched a hunt for them. It is said Balaguru and Senthil were history-sheeters. Arun, an engineering graduate, was assisting his father in the business.
