Nagapattinam coast, Tiruchy airport placed on high alert
While the situation in Sri Lanka continuing to remain tense following a fresh haul of detonators in a few locations, the State government on Monday sounded high alert in several coastal villages and renowned churches, including 53 hamlets in Nagapattinam.

Sources said that in the aftermath of the terror attack that shook the island nation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) heightened its surveillance on the coastal lines of Bay of Bengal to avoid any intrusion or attacks on Indian soil. ICG sources said that all necessary measures are in place to thwart terrorist infiltration bids.
According to Nagapattinam Superintendent of Police C Vijayakumar, constant surveillance of all the 53 coastal villages in north and south Nagapattinam districts was being carried out and additional security have been posted in churches from Monday morning. Around 19 additional check posts have been established, he added.
“Places like Kodiyakarai, which are closer to Sri Lanka have been placed on high alert and we have sought the assistance of Forest Department in ensuring coastal vigil,” the SP said.
Public have also been advised to alert the cops if they spot strangers or suspicious boats in their areas. The Coastal Security Group have also intensified its patrolling activity.
Meanwhile, security has also been tightened at the Tiruchy international airport as it is a key transit point to many South Asian countries, especially Sri Lanka. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials said that security has been beefed up by about 30 per cent around the airport and a three-tier security has been given to the facility.
