Accusing the SEC, which has become a puppet of the AIADMK regime, of waiting till the end of the deadline set by the SC and seeking another three months, Stalin said the unlawful act of the commission was a brutal murder of local body democracy.

Claiming that the rural administration has been paralyzed and public complaints related to civic amenities galore across the state, the DMK president accused Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his Local Administration Minister SP Velumani for not having ceased exploring the legal loopholes to delay the elections which should have been held in October 2016 itself.

Remarking that fear of defeat was preventing them from conducting the civic polls, Stalin who is also the Leader of the Opposition said the people were awaiting their turn to deliver defeat as gift to the ruling AIADMK which has let corruption and maladministration rot the system. People have realised that the government has been deliberately delaying the civic polls fearing defeat despite receiving the rapping of the Madras High Court and Supreme Court on numerous instances. “It is a useless government,” Stalin said.

He also said that the people would not pardon the incumbent rulers and they were ready to teach a fitting lesson to them, Stalin urged the SEC and state government to immediately conduct the polls to create an administrative infrastructure to resolve the grievances of the people.
