Husband kills woman, mother-in-law in Theni
Double murders at Amul Nagar, a residential locality in Kombai, on Friday night has shaken Theni district.

According to police investigation, K Manikandan (44) was identified as the accused who had allegedly murdered his wife Palaniammal (40) and his mother-in-law Muthammal (70). The incident occurred around 10 pm, sources said.
Both the victims were hacked to death, sources said. Manikandan used to urge Palaniammal to stay along with him in his native at Yelukallupatti. However, he didn’t like it when his wife’s mother would often stay with them. This led to several quarrels between the couple, and was the reason why his wife didn’t stay with him.
Irked over this, Manikandan allegedly hacked his wife and her mother to death on Friday night. The accused was arrested by Kombai police based on a complaint lodged by S Palanimuthu (52) of Veppamaratheru, under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
Elderly woman found dead
Meanwhile, a 62-year-old woman was found dead in her house at Venkatarayapuram in Tirunelveli district on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Vasantha, wife of Gurunathan.
Vijayanagaram police inspected the spot and held enquiries, which revealed that seven and half sovereigns of gold worn by the victim were missing. The victim’s face was wrapped by a cloth and she could have been strangled to death, sources said. Vijayanagaram police have filed a case under Section 302 of the IPC based on a complaint lodged by Suresh Kumar, son of the deceased. Further investigation is on.
