Co-ed institutions continue to perform better in exams
Co-educational schools across the State secured a pass percentage of 91.67% compared to both boys only and girls only schools, which altogether registered only 88.61%.

Academicians said that students studying in co-ed schools will always have a healthy competition between girls and boys. “The competition is not only during the final exam but it can also be seen during revision tests,” P K Savithiri, principal of a private school in Palavaram, said.
She told DT Next that both male and female students continue to exchange doubts, clarifications and other important topics related to the subjects. “There is also a healthy competition in classroom tests,”she added.
According to the statistics given by the Directorate of Examinations, co-educational schools, in more than 25 districts, have scored an overall pass percentage of more than 90%.
Of the total 8.69 lakh students appeared for Class 12 board exams, 5.21 lakh candidates were from co-educational institutions. Interestingly, co-ed schools in Ramanathapuram, which is considered to be performing bad, too, did well.
According to the statistics, co-ed schools in Ramanathapuram secured an overall pass percentage of 92.54 compared to boys’ and girls’ schools (80%).
Likewise, co-ed schools in Tirunelveli secured an overall percentage of 94.26 compared to other schools, which registered a little over 90%.
