Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder-president Kamal Haasan on Monday urged the youth to support his party to ensure that Tamil Nadu was strongly represented in the Parliament.

Campaigning in Tiruchy, Kamal said people from southern India are not supported in the north.
“We never find any names like Annadurai, Kamaraj or Kannan in northern parts of India like Kolkata, Mumbai or Delhi. But we can find names like Gandhi and Subash Chandra Bose in Madurai, Tiruchy and even in Kanniyakumari. The people from northern India don’t wish to extend their help to us despite us supporting them. Hence, it is time that we have a strong representation in Delhi,” Kamal said.
Stating that the sale of liquor was being controlled by the government while the education sector is dominated by private players, Kamal assured that the MNM would strive to raise government school education to world-class standards.
Alleging that there was rampant illegal sand mining and mixing of untreated waste into fresh water sources, Kamal said that it was a shame that the government had not taken steps to solve these issues. He assured that apart from finding solutions for the above problems, the MNM would ensure clean tap water to every household.
