Addressing newspersons, she said 1,500 former servicemen, 400 home guards, 50 former policemen, 50 retired fire and rescue service personnel and 500 NSS volunteers will also be enlisted for the election duty.
Stating that all efforts would be made to ensure that voters exercise their franchise without fear, Vanitha said 347 polling stations in the district were deemed sensitive and another 2 highly sensitive. There is a total of 3,456 polling stations in Vellore district.
“While 317 mobile police teams would oversee polling booths regularly, 72 senior police officials, including SPs, ADSPs, DSPs and inspectors, would be on duty on Thursday,” she said.
Of the 362 history-sheeters identified in the district, 300 were made to sign affidavits before the Revenue Divisional Officers (RDOs) that they would not indulge in any anti-social activity for six months. Another 29 people were detained under the Goondas Act, the DIG added.
